ANNE TOWNSHEND
Since cutting down the hours I spend at work, I have more time to enjoy experimenting, learning and developing my art.
Using watercolour sometimes combined with charcoal, had always been my favoured medium -particularly when working with landscape - but most recently I have become very involved with printing techniques, specifically linocutting. Carving my designs into lino block gives me satisfyingly graphic images, which I am continuing to exploit and explore. Recently I have acquired an Albion printing press, enabling me to work in my studio at home.
I am constantly inspired by the Stour, Box and Brett river valleys in Suffolk, where I am lucky enough to live, and can often be found sketching in my local fields and lanes.
The Print Workshop at Gainsborough's House has provided me with much support and instruction, where I have participated in various courses. Amongst many, Ravilious, Bawden and the Nash brothers are all heroes of mine.
Creating my art is my pleasure, hopefully it gives others pleasure, too.

GEORGIE FINN
I graduated from Central St Martins school of art with a BA Hons in Ceramics and later joined Gainsborough house to try my hand at printmaking. I have a love of folk art and have discovered that the carving required for linocut and woodcut can lead to similarly earthy and rustic results which I really like. I also use screen printing and collage as a way of creatively exploring the many possibilities of printmaking, and am working towards incorporating these techniques into my ceramics.
I am at present studying for an MA in Children's Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art

MIRANDA J CHAPMAN
I gained a degree in Fine Art from Newcastle Polytechnic in 1980. While my four children were young, the focus of my work was mainly illustration and portraits. Later my work was predominantly commissions for murals, trompe l'oeil, and paint effects. A few years ago I returned to printmaking, especially etching but also lithography, finding fascination in the processes and craft involved. My work is figurative and inspired by the human form and wilder landscapes of East Anglia, particularly the marshes and mudflats, and also the Western Isles of Scotland.
Often drawing or painting in the initial image with brush or pen using the sugar lift process, I continue using aquatint to produce the gradations of tone to try to achieve a free and painterly effect to the finished print.
I exhibit throughout East Anglia.

JULIE ORPEN
Julie produces lino prints and engravings using the historic presses at Gainsborough's House workshop in Sudbury, Suffolk, as well as printing in her garden studio at home.
She studied Graphic Design at Norwich School of Art , and has attended courses and evening classes since then which have enabled her to expand her knowledge and practise of the various printing processes. Lino printing has developed as her main way of working, often using multiple layers of colours to achieve her final image, although she has recently enjoyed engraving on a smaller scale.
Julie joined 4PRINTmakers in 2015 and has exhibited her work in galleries throughout East Anglia. She was also recently commissioned to illustrate a poetry book for The Happy Dragon's Press.
Julie is inspired by the rich history of lino-printing and engraving, especially with artists such as Eric Ravilious, Edward Bawden. Her work reflects this, as well as her graphic design background, and the subject matter is often inspired by the natural world around her.
